Moving from Cape Town to the Garden Route is becoming one of the most popular semigration relocation routes in South Africa — There are various categories of home movers but the mainstream categories include retirees, remote workers, and families chasing coastal lifestyle, space, and a slower pace. The most common destinations are George (430km), Mossel Bay (380km), Knysna (500km), and Plettenberg Bay (530km).

This page is for you if you’re moving a household from Cape Town or the Western Cape to anywhere along the Garden Route, and want a clear picture of cost, timing, and what’s included.

How our share-load to the Garden Route works

South African Furniture Removals runs share-load services from Cape Town along the N2 to the Garden Route. Share-load means your furniture travels on the same truck as one or two other customers heading the same direction — you pay only for the truck space your move uses, not for the whole vehicle.

  1. Get a quote. Send us a quick contact form or a detailed inventory list. Within 4 business hours, your dedicated moving consultant gets back to you.
  2. Book your move. Confirm dates that fit our schedule. Typical flexibility is 3–5 days either side of your ideal collection date.
  3. Collection day. Our Cape Town moving team arrives with blankets, strapping, and protective wrapping. Every item is labelled and inventoried per customer.
  4. Transit. The truck heads east via the N2 along the Garden Route — typical transit time 1–2 days, depending on which town you’re delivering to.
  5. Delivery. Our removal team unloads at your new address.

Full-load is also available if you prefer a dedicated truck (typically 2–3x the share-load price, but you control the dates and delivery is direct).

Common questions

How far ahead should I book?
Peak season (November –January) the Garden Route is one of the busiest destinations in SA — book 4–6 weeks ahead. Off-peak, 2–3 weeks.

Does it cost more to deliver to Plettenberg Bay than Mossel Bay?
Slightly. Plettenberg Bay is about 150km further, so destination affects the bottom of your quote — usually a 5–10% difference for the same household size.

My new place isn’t ready — can you store my furniture?
Yes, via vetted storage partners across South Africa. Discuss with your consultant when booking.

I’m downsizing — do I really need a full truck?
Probably not. Most retirees and downsizers fit comfortably in a 30–60% share-load slot.

What happens if something gets damaged?
GIT insurance covers transit damage. Report to your consultant within 7 days — we process with our insurer.
